After weeks of speculating Fiorentina have completed the loan signing of Edimilson Fernandes from West Ham United with an option to buy.

According to Football.London, the deal will cost Fiorentina €750k up front and if they choose to make the deal permanent will cost a further €9m.

Fernandes is an exciting prospect at centre midfield known for his pace and dribbling ability.

The deal also sees former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez go the other way signing for West Ham on English deadline day earlier this week.

Speaking to Football-Italia, Fernandes said:

“I feel that I have matured after my spell in England and hope now to have a role that makes the best of my abilities.

“From the first chats with Coach Stefano Pioli, I can tell that he is counting on me. I hope to find in Italy what I was missing in England.”

He will certainly be hoping his role with La Viola is more pivotal than at West Ham as after making 28 league appearances, mostly from the bench in his first season with the club, his appearance tally was slashed in half last season to 14, leaving Edimilson forgotten low down the pecking order as West Ham went on a shopping spree this summer.

West Ham brought in Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez to strengthen their central midfield meaning Fernandes would have had limited playing time if any so it will be interesting to see if he flourishes with the extra playing time and if West Ham are left regretting their decision to let a young, exciting prospect go.
