After years of spending very little in the transfer window, AC Milan are finally splashing the cash. Their summer spending spree has come up to £160 million in transfer fees for 10 new recruits. However, by the time the new season arrives on August 11/12th they could have up to 15 new recruits. This is no small help to new Chinese investors that have taken over in Spring this year.
New Signings have included the arrivals of Leonardo Bonucci, Hakan Calhanoglu, Mateo Musacchio and Ricardo Rodriguez to name a few. However, some fan favourites have left with Andrea Poli & Keisuke Honda leaving on free transfers to Bologna & CF Pachuca respectively. Mattia De Sciglio also left as he joined Juventus for £10.2 million.
We can expect Milan to be challenging for Domestic and European honours this season with the club qualifying for the Europa League qualifying rounds with a sixth Place finish last season.
So now here is a potential XI for AC Milan as they kick off the new Serie A campaign.
GK: Gianluigi Donnarumma
The young 18 year old Goalkeeper made his competitive debut for Milan aged 16 years & 242 days becoming the 2nd youngest goalkeeper to start a Serie A match. He will be looking to build upon his 12 clean sheets and 3.55 average saves per match from last season and will be Milan’s first choice Goalkeeper for the 3rd successive season.
RB- Andrea Conti
The new signing Conti was singed from Atalanta for a fee in the region of £8 million. The tireless full back is versatile and can play along the defence if coach Vincenzo Montella decides to play a 3 man defence. Expect Conti to be high on interceptions and tackles won as well as being an attacking outlet for his new team.
CB- Leonardo Bonucci
The experienced Centre half was signed to shore up the defence in a £35 million transfer from Juventus. In a surprise bit of transfer business for many, he comes in as the new AC Milan captain and expect his leadership shown at Juventus to rub off onto other Milan Players in this XI. He is well known across Europe for his tough tackling and no nonsense defending which is shown by winning everything domestically with the Turin outfit. However we hope he will add a European medal to his long list of Trophies won during his career.
CB- Mateo Musacchio
Solid Argentine Centre half Musacchio will partner Bonucci in the middle of the defence after he was signed from Villarreal for a fee in the region of £15.5 million. After growing his reputation at old side Villarreal expect the Argentine to only improve as he enters his prime years of his career. The 26 year old is well known for his high success rate in aerial duels won as well as Interceptions and tackles won in La Liga last season. He also prefers to play it out from the back so expect him to start attacks and give the ball onto attacking players in the XI.
LB- Ricardo Rodriguez
This completes a whole new defence for Milan this season as full back Rodriguez was singed from Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of £15 million. Despite a number of clubs being interested in the Swiss international it’s Milan who have won his signature. He will be looking to build upon his form in the Bundesliga last season with his new club and with the full back having a 84% pass accuracy as well as creating 26 chances for team mates in his previous season. So expect Rodriguez to get stronger as the season goes on as he establishes to playing in the Serie A.
RM- Suso
The midfielder is only the 2nd player in this XI to have featured in the Serie A for the Rossoneri. Despite Suso putting in a number of impressive performances for Milan last season expect his chances of starting to have improved this season as Gerard Deulofeu who was starting in this position for Milan last season now at Barcelona. The former Liverpool man will be hoping to supply chances for the other attacking players from the right however if Montella plays a 3 at the back formation in some games expect him to be the one missing out for a player of Andrea Conti’s quality because of his versatility in a number of positions. So here’s hoping that Suso gets a chance to shine in this new look Milan team.
CM- Lucas Bigla
Defensive minded Biglia is a new signing from Lazio for a fee in the region of £17 million. He is well known for creating chances for players further up the pitch with 54 being made in total for his former employers Lazio last season. He also had 87% pass accuracy last season so expect that to improve when playing for Milan next season. Also the fans should be excited of this addition as he may be compared to former defensive midfielder Gennaro Gattuso however we hope the midfielder will flourish with his new team mates as they look for trophies this season despite the comparison to a club legend.
CM- Franck Kessie
Centre midfielder Kessie is a new addition from Atalanta for a fee in the region of £17 million. One of the reasons why Milan signed him is due to him having plenty of years left at the top. The 20 year old averaged a pass success rate of 84% a season we’ll as 0.6 key passes a game for Atalanta last season. We must expect the young midfielder to be nurtured as a future star player in this Milan side and expect many top sides to keep track of his career as he develops at Milan.
LM- Hakan Çalhanoglu
Free Kick specialist Çalhanoglu is a signing from Leverkusen for a fee in the region of £17 million. Known all around Europe for his amazing success rate from a dead ball situation, he will be hoping to add to the goals scored by Milan this season as well as providing for teammates. He can play on the left or in an attacking midfield position and he will be hoping to make more appearances this season as he only made 14 appearances last season but that was due to him being out of favour with his previous manager. He will be hoping to improve on 1.9 Key passes a game as well as a 0.8 successful dribbles last season in the Bundesliga. He is one of many new signings hoping for a good start with Milan.
ST- Carlos Bacca
The 3rd and final player to have featured for the Rossoneri last season is striker Carlos Bacca. For Milan last season he was top scorer with 13 Goals and we hope he will be more prolific next season with added improvements to players such as Çalhanoglu and Biglia giving the striker goal scoring opportunities in and around the 18 yard box. In recent seasons he has attracted interest from top clubs in Europe and we hope for Milan’s sake that they keep hold of the Colombian international.
ST- Andre Silva
The final player in this XI is new signing Silva for a fee in the region of £19.5 million. The Portuguese international who rose through the ranks at Porto is a player who hopes to add to the goals in Serie A. Last season he managed 16 Goals in Liga NOS for Porto as well as 5 Assists. The 21 Year Old has already played in this years Confederations Cup and is hoping to be a good bit of business by Milan. Due to the market for top class strikers being so high a player under £20 million is seamed as a bargain and here’s hoping he can becoming a Milan star in their quest to win Domestic and European honours this season.
