Defence is the best attack?
Goals from the unlikely sources of Dani Alves and Daniele Rugani secured a 4-0 win for Juventus over Cagliari.
The Bianconeri were in need of a win after a 2-0 loss to Inter in the Derby D’Italia and a Goalless draw in the Champions League Group stages against Sevilla and they finally got the three points which boosted them back to top spot in Serie A.
Miralem Pjanic had the game’s first real chance from his free kick which was denied by Cagliari keeper Storari, who then made a brilliant save to deny a Gonzalo Higuain volley, however, it was Juve who reacted the quickest with Daniele Rugani on the scene to tap in the rebound.
Storari must have had an overwhelming feeling of Deja Vu where he once again made a fine save only for Higuain to tap in the rebound. Dani Alves got The Bianconeri’s third after receiving the ball on the edge of the box to smash it into the back of the net. Mario Lemina thought he had got Juve’s late on, but his near post shot bounced in off a helpless Luca Ceppitelli.
“We had a mean streak about us tonight. We wanted to play and we were aggressive” said Andrea Barzagli after the final whistle. “We know that in Italy the team with the best defence usually wins. We’ve been that team for the last five years and we want to continue to be.”
